EDITORIAL

We've received a few letters with complaints about some grammar errors in our last edition, and after a long and exhausting analysis, we've decided to make some changes to rectify the situation. We’re proud to announce that we've hired four PhD's in linguistics, one of them is a Nobel prize, to our renewed spelling and grammar checker department. And to lead these experts in English language, we've brought to this paper Jake Guzik’s wee brother, a 13-year-old youngster, a prodigy that will certainly make The Independent an international reference. From here on we’ll only accept the finest English, everything to please our dear readers!

SNITCHED

An anonymous source informed our reporters that a judge who’s on Don Gigante’s pocket, made the leader of New York aware about Snitche’s decision to turn and become an FBI informant. The truth behind this fact remains unknown, but according to the rumors on the streets, Snitch has been a produced inside man since the beginning.

At the time of his death, he was reportedly being protected on a witness protection program, which could have been negotiated when he found himself alone , with no chance of survival other than giving himself in. On the day he was murdered by the Gigante crime family, he apparently was getting ready to feed the federal agents with information about Don Gigante’s and Don Amaru’s involvement with the underworld. One thing is for sure, he had enough material to bring down the two families down in court.

Once again, an anonymous source, told us that Walder Frey, a multi-millionaire business tycoon, who had a prior connection to the Gigante crime family during Vince's era, had some of his men searching for Snitch. The reasons behind this case are unclear, but it seems that he found the man and personally made a phone call to Don Gigante, letting him know about Snitche’s whereabouts.

One hour later, the last piece of the Diamond Cutters was found dead in his hotel bedroom.


THE NEW STATUS QUO

A three-way sit down between LA, NY and LV determined the law that’s going to affect all the major cities under the mob influence. The three bosses chose thew new path to the underworld, on a unanimous decision, and they seem to be all strongly committed to enforce the decisions that have been made.

From here on, anyone who wishes to run business in a less legal way, will have to pay for protection money, a sum that will be divided between the power triangle that's now controlling the map. If our investigation is right, those who decide to run business while not being under any of the made families, will have to pay 10 million every week, and will only be able to run a crew of seven men.

A few names have come forward after this decision, such as Freddy Mercury and Alexander, and while the first was a bit doubtful at first about the advantages of following the word, the second served as an example to him and everyone else. It seems that Alexander, the founder of the Bandoleros, was executed today in Miami, for apparently refusing to pay for protection. The Bosses are probably hoping that this message is a bold statement enough for the future. Only time will tell. Yet, the question remains, there will be more Alexander's?



THE RETURN OF BURKE

The reasons behind Junior’s comeback from retirement is still unknown, but there’s no doubt that this happening is the reason behind many rumors and chit-chat being made in speakeasies all over the country.

Son of the infamous James Burke, and disciple of Eddie Stobbart, he retired after a deal that's gone wrong in Miami, that at the time was bringing too much heat on him, with many implications, including the possibility to face capital punishment. Since he dismantled the Saints & Soldiers, it’s unknown whether he had any mob activity or close connection with any of the current families.

The question now is to understand what are his intentions, how will he fit into this new status quo, as well as to see what paper he'll seek to fit the underworld. The Independent will keep intently reporting this subject, and hopefully bring more news about it during the next issue.



A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE…

We've all seen this movie before. Whatever roads are chosen from here on, it will end as soon as someone finds the conditions to send this triumvirate for a swim with the fishes, to use an expression so much loved by the mob.

We've had diplomats, we've had dictators, we loved some leaders and hated some others as well. The truth is, there is a need for regulation, or this organized crime may become disorganized in just a space of a few months.

Tom Gigante, Tupac Amaru and Dick Stroker are now leading the new era of the underworld. Many say that this is a 180 degree turn in contrast to what was being done just a few weeks ago, with the bosses now opting to use an iron fist to keep things under control.

In theory that’s how things are supposed to happen in an environment like this, and as long as it ensures stability among the families, it doesn't really matter what means are used to justify the ends, as long as everybody is happy, allowed to make money, and with no big complaints. On the other hand, it’s easy recognizable the fact that this new age mobsters don't deal well with such a strict approach.

So the challenge now is to see what the Bosses intend to do, in the middle of these circumstances, in order to find the balance business-wise on short term, and at the same time what they intend to do to make sure they’ll remain in power on a long term perspective.

My point of view? It will be down to the ability of the current leaders to stick together and work closely towards the same goal. I guess we’re about to find if that will become reality.
